Book and metal artist, Erica Veil is based in Troy NY and has a background in jewelry and fabric. Veil’s deep respect for the permanence of the tactile, combined with her passion for preservation propels her book and metal art into new territory.

“My grandmother was a fine seamstress. The samples of her work, having been raised and trained in Switzerland in the capital of haute couture lace and embroidery, were more than an inspiration. There were many years separating my grandmother and me, thus the inspiration comes more from genetics and young memories. My passion for fabric drives everything I do.”

Inspired by San Francisco’s Center for the Book, and trained in traditional book binding methods at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, Veil incorporates metal work, and mixed media to create unique pieces while preserving time-honored traditions.

Veil’s work has been exhibited in New York and Colorado in both solo and group shows. Working with book artist Maureen Cummins, her 12-book series entitled Poems draws on the transformative experience of having left corporate America to become a full-time artist. The Chapel + Cultural Center at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus in Troy NY recently presented her aptly-named solo exhibit, P A S S I O N. Veil’s photography, jewelry, prints, and handmade books are in private collections around the world.
